If you’ve walked past the Regather building recently, you may have noticed a few changes. We’ve been working with Amey, Sheffield Council’s Streets Ahead contractor, to improve the green spaces in front of the Regather building on Club Garden Road. A few weeks ago, Amey employees cleared the two raised beds of their dense shrubbery and litter and now Tim, Regather member and volunteer, has developed a planting scheme to fill them with edible plants and herbs. To carry out this replanting project, and other work needed to improve the outside space at Regather, we are inviting you to join a community work day along with students from the Singaporean and Malaysian Association at the University of Sheffield. The work party will take place on Sunday 2nd March from 11am until 3pm and tasks will include planting, clearing and litter picking.

Please bring gardening gloves and tools if you have them along with any friends and family who fancy getting their hands dirty too. This replanting project is part of a wider plan to improve green spaces in Sharrow in conjunction with the Sharrow Green Spaces Network, a new community initiative which aims to help people share resources, skills, knowledge and inspiration about gardening and improving public green spaces. Regather recently attended the initial meeting of this network, organised by Sharrow Community Organisers. There are already many exciting projects in the pipeline, including the planting of 450 fruit bushes in the locality.

Find out more & get involved at The Sharrow Green Spaces Network where you’ll find a map showing potential and current growing spaces as well as centres for seed storing and tool sharing. There is also an active Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/251701538340797/) and a new community noticeboard of activities you can get involved in at the Three Bears Kitchen at the Old Junior School.

So, if you would like to play a part in making Sharrow a greener and more beautiful place, why not start with the ‘Regather Replants’ work party on Sunday 2nd March?
